Why I Built Mo Speech

Every parent of a child with communication needs knows the frustration of not being able to find the right symbol at the right time.

My name is Mo. I'm a father, a software engineer, and someone who's spent countless hours trying to teach my son to communicate using AAC symbols.

The problem? Every AAC app I tried was designed for children to use independently not for parents to teach with. It became a regular thing that by the time I had found a symbol my son had lost interest.

That's when I realised that parents need different tools than children. We need to model naturally, in the moment.

So I built Mo Speech, the AAC modelling tool I wish I'd had from day one.

Mohan Veraitch, Founder of Mo Speech

The Problem I Lived Every Day

Picture this: It's breakfast time. My son is getting frustrated because he can't tell me what he wants. I grab the AAC tablet to model "I want cereal."

But first, I need to find the home screen. Then navigate to the food category. Then scroll through fifty options. Then find "cereal"

By the time I've found it, my son has either given up or grabbed the cereal box himself. The teaching moment is gone. The frustration remains.

I tried several different AAC apps. Each cost between £200-400. Each promised to help with communication.

That's when I realised I could build something better. Something that put speed first. Something built FOR modelling, not just FOR communication.

My daily challenges became our features. Your feedback shapes our priorities.

"Children need to see a symbol used 50-100 times before they'll use it independently."

The Breakthrough Moment

The idea for Mo Speech came during a particularly frustrating morning.

My son wanted to tell me something. I could see it in his eyes as he was trying so hard to communicate. I reached for the AAC tablet, and once again, I was stuck in menus while he waited.

That's when it hit me: I use voice search a multiple times a day on my phone. It gets jobs done instantly and effortlessly.

Why couldn't AAC modelling work the same way?

I grabbed my laptop and started sketching. Three weeks later, I had the first prototype of Mo Speech.

When I used it for the first time during breakfast, my son looked at me differently. I wasn't fumbling with menus anymore. I was present. I was modelling naturally. The symbols flowed as fast as my words.

That's when I knew this needed to exist—not just for me, but for every parent, therapist, and educator trying to teach AAC in the real world.

AAC Tools Should Be Rights, Not Privileges

Communication is a fundamental human right. Yet AAC tools often cost hundreds of pounds, require expensive dedicated devices, and lock families into proprietary ecosystems.

We believe AAC modelling tools should be:

Accessible Pricing

AAC should be affordable.

  • 500 core words always free
  • Full library for £9.99/month
  • 30-day free trial
  • No contracts, cancel anytime

Families deserve access to tools without financial barriers.

Universal Access

Works on your existing devices.

  • Any laptop, tablet, or phone
  • No expensive hardware
  • No device lock-in
  • Universal SymbolStix library

Everyone on your child's team can model consistently.

Community Driven

Your voice shapes every decision.

  • Monthly feature reviews
  • Founding partner program
  • Direct access to founder
  • Features made from feedback

We're not building AAC in isolation.

How We Work

Our Values Guide Every Decision

Speed Over Features

We optimise for fast modelling, not feature bloat.

Every feature must answer: "Does this help parents model faster and more naturally?" If not, we don't build it.

Transparency Always

You know what we're building, when, and why.

Our roadmap is public and our priorities are voted on by the community. We keep you informed every step of the way.

Privacy First

Your data stays yours. Always.

We don't track your usage to sell ads. We don't share data with third parties. Mo Speech works for you, not for advertisers.

Real Problems Only

We build what you actually need, not what sounds good.

Every feature on our roadmap comes from real people who told us what would help them model better.
